Blizzard Entertainment has released a new animated short titled “Recall,” that gives us a deeper look at one of Overwatch‘s characters, Winston. As the first in a series of animated shorts that will explore the game’s lore and its characters, Blizzard is really showing off what it can do in the cinematics department. The eight-minute video stars Winston, one of 21 characters available in Blizzard’s new arena shooter that will arrive on the PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on May 24.

Winston is a genetically-engineered gorilla, although he prefers to be called a scientist, and the video dives deeper into his origins while giving us a brief preview of the rest of Overwatch‘s characters. Reaper also makes a major appearance in the animated short.

Although Overwatch will essentially be a multiplayer team-based online shooter, Blizzard is focusing on its lore and story with animated shorts over the next two months as well as a series of free digital comics and a graphic novel.

An open beta for the game will run from May 5 to May 9 and those that pre-order can check it out two days earlier along with a friend.
