Dying Light led January 2015 sales in the software category while the PS4 reclaimed the top spot as the best-selling console according to NPD sales results. Taking second place was Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare while Grand Theft Auto V remained strong in the third position. Rounding out the top 10 were Minecraft, NBA 2K15, Super Smash Bros. Wii U, Far Cry 4, Madden NFL 15, Destiny and FIFA 15.

Other noteworthy news from NPD January 2015 sales results include total Super Smash Bros. Wii U sales reaching 1.4 million while the 3DS version has sold 2.1-million units. Wii U software sales were up 45 percent year-over-year while the Xbox One had more game sales per console than any other platform. According to NPD data, 18.5-million PS4 units have been sold since the console’s launch in November 2013 while 81.8-million software units have been pushed to consumers worldwide.

Launch sales of Dying Light also made it the highest first month of sales for a new IP in the survival-horror genre, surpassing the previous record held by The Evil Within, which launched in October 2014.

In total, overall retail sales were down 5 percent year-over-year while hardware sales were down 23 percent.
