If you’re like me and believed Diablo III was in its permanent resting place in a gaming graveyard, you might want to think again. With Diablo IV around the corner and releasing in June (hopefully), Diablo III’s Season 28 is going to introduce something new that might even convince me to give it a shot. In a very lengthy blog post detailing the upcoming season’s changes, there is a whole section explaining the newest addition: Altar of Rites. And you won’t have to wait very long to see what it does, since you can interact with it at level 1.

While the Altar of Rites looks a bit like a skill tree of sorts, it’s actually packed with seals and legendary potion powers. Players will have the option to choose the path and order in which they unlock the seals and potion powers. Everything can be unlocked and the powers apply to all characters and will last the entirety of Season 28. The seal unlocks range from flat damage increases to movement speed increases to doubling the amount of Death’s Breaths that drop. Some of the seal unlocks are quality-of-life upgrades to gameplay, like pets picking up Death’s Breath as well as picking up and salvaging common, magic, and rare items. And taking the “Z” slot for seals? That would be “Double the chance to find a legendary item purchased from Kadala.” More Forgotten Souls for everyone!

It should actually be a bit of fun to obtain all of the upgrades since each unlock requires specific materials. For example, to unlock the first node of your choosing, it’ll require 10 Reusable Parts. The seventh node requires Reaper’s Wraps. Getting further down the list, node 26 requires 1,600 Bloodshards. If you manage to unlock all 26 seals and three potions, you’ll receive the Wings of Terror Cosmetic, Seal AD.

There are plenty of patch notes and changes heading to Diablo III for Season 28. But the Altar of Rites might be interesting enough to check out if you haven’t been to Sanctuary in a long time. Season 28 goes live on February 24 at 5:00 PM Pacific.
