Launched earlier this month on November 6, Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment is getting its first content update this week on November 27. Version 1.0.2 adds new challenges and rewards, with Battle Challenges and Hyrule Challenges added to the map after clearing the main story. Those missions will bring about new challenges as a new Dangerous Species of enemies is added, including Bokoblins and Sludgelikes. Materials obtained from some of those Dangerous monsters will grant more powerful attacks like Scra Attacks and Boko Slash.

In addition to those new challenges, two new weapons are being added. The Greatsword of Light is a special greatsword blessed with the power of light by Rauru, while the Spear of the Upper Guard is a weapon issued to the elite under the direct command of the King of Hyrule. Getting those weapons will involve clearing the new battles being added in the update.

Zelda and Calamo are also each getting their own Sync Strike, where Calamo throws a boomerang and Zelda uses the power of time to return and launch a follow-up attack. The new Sync Strike unlocks by completing the new Hyrule Challenges. Players will also be able to perform a Sync Strike with the Block Golem.

The game is also getting several improvements and bug fixes, including the ability to save the Mysterious Golem’s special actions for each weapon type and a new warning sound before the effects of Limit Break and Infinite Battery end. Players can also select characters and weapons in the Training Room, while selecting Special Food or Spare Battery will now have a preview of the recovery amount. You can see the full patch notes of improvements and bug fixes on Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment’s official Japanese website.

I didn’t expect to enjoy Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment as much as I did. I’m generally not a huge musou fan, but the game came at just the right time. After several months of intense games to review, Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment was the perfect palate cleanser to reset my brain for the rest of the year.
