The developer behind Genshin Impact is readying its next game called Honkai: Star Rail. In a blog post, lead programmer of HoYoverse, Yang Yu, gave some details about the upcoming space-fantasy RPG. Yu confirmed that it will be heading to PlayStation “soon,” but gave no actual release date. Honkai: Star Rail’s website says the game will be available on April 26, 2023 but that appears to be for the mobile and PC releases, as the PlayStation logo has its own “Coming Soon” tag. So at the very least, you should expect Honkai: Star Rail to hit PlayStation first and it’ll be sometime before April 26.
Like Genshin Impact, Honkai: Star Rail will be a free-to-play game where you’ll embark on a trip aboard the Astral Express as “The Trailblazer.” In the universe of Honkai: Star Rail, you’ll come across “Aeons” that are incarnations of universal principles that can freely travel between infinite worlds, driven by their Primum Mobile, Yu said in the blog post. The short and more comprehensible version? They’re gods with formidable powers.
The game features a turn-based combat system where you’ll put your skills to the test in building a four-person combat team from a wide range of playable characters. If you’ve played Genshin Impact, we imagine much of this game will be familiar — except with a whole new setting and a whole new collection of characters to pull on. Hope you like gacha, because there’s a lot more of that coming your way.
