This year, Hollow Knight: Silksong finally released, and it’s been a wild success. Despite being available on Xbox Game Pass, developer Team Cherry has announced the game has sold over seven million units. I suppose that isn’t too much of a surprise, though, considering the game’s launch actually crashed all the major storefronts, including Steam.
Those millions of players now have more content to look forward to, as Team Cherry has revealed the game’s first big expansion, Sea of Sorrow. It’s probably intentional that Team Cherry specifically used the word “first” to describe the expansion, which hopefully means more will come. Sea of Sorrow will be free to all players and will launch sometime in 2026. It’ll bring new areas, bosses, tools, and more as Hornet’s adventures continue in a nautically-themed expansion.
Along with the expansion’s announcement, Team Cherry confirmed that Hollow Knight Nintendo Switch 2 Edition is in development and will incorporate all the updates and enhancements that Silksong received on the platform. That means the original Hollow Knight will get high frame-rate modes, higher resolutions, and more graphical effects on the Switch 2. Players who own Hollow Knight on Switch will be able to download the new Switch 2 Edition for free when it launches in 2026.
Today’s final surprise was the introduction of Hollow Knight mini-figurines from Fangamer that include Hornet, her friends, and her rivals. The figurines are available for preorder, either individually or as a complete set.
