As expected, the Final Fantasy XVI Playable Prologue Demo has been announced during the Final Fantasy XVI Pre-Launch Celebration. Unfortunately, it won’t be going live shortly after the event as we originally anticipated. Instead, it will be launching on June 12, 2023 at 1:00am PDT or 4:00am EDT. The demo includes over two hours of prologue gameplay and the saved data from the Playable Prologue can be carried to the main game when it releases on June 22, 2023.

In addition, there is a Special Battle Demo that unlocks once players complete the prologue. In it, players will experience the action combat of Clive with additional Eikonic abilities. Players will not be able to save progress from the Special Battle Demo as it’s basically a way to showcase the game’s combat. Yoshida did warn that the Special Battle Demo will be in a very dark area of the game, and wants players to not assume that the rest of Final Fantasy XVI will be this dark.

During the opening keynote of the Pre-Launch Celebration, Yoshida also revealed that PlatinumGames and the team developing Kingdom Hearts 4 both contributed to the development of Final Fantasy XVI.
