God of War is officially marking its 20th anniversary on March 22, 2025, and Santa Monica Studio has shared how the franchise is celebrating. On March 20, God of War Ragnarök is getting a free update on PlayStation and PC that adds the Dark Odyssey collection, which players can claim from any Lost Items chest. The collection is inspired by the working name of God of War (2005) and the skin that first appeared in God of War II for players who completed the game on God Mode difficulty. With the addition of the collection on March 20, the game will also add the ability to Edit Appearance, so players can choose the visuals they prefer without changing the actual gear.

The black and gold themed collection includes the following items:

Dark Odyssey Armor & Appearance for Kratos

  • Dark Odyssey Kratos Appearance
  • Dark Odyssey Armor Set for Kratos (Dark Odyssey Breastplate, Dark Odyssey Bracers, Dark Odyssey Belt)

Dark Odyssey Companion Armor

  • Dark Odyssey Vestment for Atreus
  • Dark Odyssey Witch Frock for Freya

Dark Odyssey Weapon Appearances & Attachments

  • Dark Odyssey Leviathan Axe [Appearance] & Dark Odyssey Knob [Attachment]
  • Dark Odyssey Blades of Chaos [Appearance] & Dark Odyssey Handles [Attachment]
  • Dark Odyssey Draupnir Spear [Appearance] & Dark Odyssey Hind [Attachment]

Dark Odyssey Shield Appearances & Rönd

  • Dark Odyssey Guardian Shield [Appearance]
  • Dark Odyssey Dauntless Shield [Appearance]
  • Dark Odyssey Stone Wall Shield [Appearance]
  • Dark Odyssey Shatter Start Shield [Appearance]
  • Dark Odyssey Onslaught Shield [Appearance]
  • Dark Odyssey Spartan Aspis Shield [Appearance]
  • Dark Odyssey Rönd

For the weapon appearances, they will only appear for the fully upgraded version of each weapon.

Those who are local to Los Angeles, California, can visit the 20th Anniversary Gallery Nucleus Exhibition from March 15 to March 23. The exhibition features a collection of new artwork inspired by the past 20 years of God of War. It will include art from current and former Santa Monica Studio developers, concept art from the games, and unique memorabilia.

The celebration will naturally include merch and collectibles. One is the God of War: 20th Anniversary Retrospective, with preorders opening on March 17. This two-volume retrospective book set chronicles the 20-year development of the God of War series and features interviews from key developers, along with stories, insights, and art for a behind-the-scenes look.

On March 18, preorders open for the Cook and Becker 20th Anniversary Print Collection, featuring art prints focused on key installments in the franchise. Cook and Becker is also offering a 20 percent discount on select God of War merch for the entire month.

For plushie collectors, preorders for the Fangamer Jörmungandr Plush open on March 19. The giant plush measures 67 inches and doubles as a puppet with a hidden sleeve behind his head. The plush also has a magnetized tongue with a little Leviathan Axe that can be kept inside his mouth or removed.

As a vinyl collector, I’m really excited for the Laced Vinyls 20th Anniversary Collection. It’s a massive 13-disc Limited Edition vinyl set, with music spanning God of War (2005) to God of War Ragnarök: Valhalla (2023). Along with the box set, the soundtracks of the Greek saga are heading to vinyl for the first time ever with Limited Edition double LP sets for God of War (2005), God of War II, and God of War III. Preorders for those open on March 20.

The final merch announced today is the Insert Coin 20th Anniversary T-Shirt Collection. Preorders for it open on March 21 and are an entire collection of God of War t-shirts highlighting the nine games that have been released over the past 20 years. Each logo features a metallic golden finish that stands out from the black fabric.

Currently, both 2018’s God of War ($19.99) and God of War Ragnarök ($47.99) are on sale until March 20 on PC. PlayStation Plus Premium and Extra members currently have access to 2018’s God of War and God of War Ragnarök in the Game Catalog. Premium subscribers can check out God of War III Remastered in the Classics Catalog.
