I suppose it was only a matter of time before the original Guild Wars got the remaster treatment. ArenaNet has announced Guild Wars Reforged, launching on December 3, bringing a series of updates to the original game that will be completely free to existing players. To make this project a reality, ArenaNet teamed up with 2weeks, a team formed last year and consisting of former ArenaNet staff. This team has over 14 years of combined experience working on Guild Wars at ArenaNet, making them a great fit for Guild Wars Reforged.
Starting on December 3, Guild Wars Reforged will offer Prophecies, Factions, and Nightfall for one bundled price of $19.99. For players who previously purchased even one of the three campaigns, all three will be available through Guild Wars Reforged. No subscription fees are necessary to enjoy all of the game’s content once you purchase it. Along with the obvious visual and audio updates, Guild Wars Reforged also brings a Steam Deck Verified badge, which means support for modern controllers. The UI has been redesigned with larger text options along with support for high-DPI displays.
As for the fresh coat of paint, expect dynamic sky bloom effects, new ambient occlusion, and lighting updates to the game. Various visual touch-ups refine textures to give Guild Wars Reforged a cleaner visual experience, while the addition of positional audio support will make the world feel more immersive. The game also adds a new quest tracking system and an on-screen control guide to make it more user-friendly in this modern age.
The update will affect all players, and it’s important to note that Guild Wars Reforged doesn’t contain exclusive content or updates. This is just the beginning, though, as the collaboration with 2weeks will continue, so expect Guild Wars Reforged to keep receiving more improvements. Those who are interested in learning more can check out a livestream on November 19 at 11:00 AM Pacific (2:00 PM Eastern) on Twitch.
