The wait for Grand Theft Auto VI just got even longer. Originally set to release in fall 2025, Rockstar then announced that the highly anticipated title would be pushed to May 26, 2026 earlier this year. Now, Rockstar Games has released a short statement confirming Grand Theft Auto VI is launching on November 19, 2026. We’re sure the internet is already opening bets on whether the game will slip to 2027. “We are sorry for adding additional time to what we realize has been a long wait, but these extra months will allow us to finish the game with the level of polish you have come to expect and deserve,” said Rockstar Games.
The news was announced as part of Take-Two’s second quarter earnings, though you can read the short statement from Rockstar Games on its official website. With expectations sky high for what may be the most anticipated game ever, it’s clear Rockstar wants to deliver as good an experience as it can at launch. It’s easier to understand the delay when you consider that the first trailer now has 268 million views. In the same earnings report, Take-Two confirmed Grand Theft Auto V has now sold over 220 million units.
When it does launch, the game will be available on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. A PC version will undoubtedly follow, but when remains the big question. It remains to be seen if the franchise will make an appearance on the Switch 2.
Hi everyone,
Grand Theft Auto VI will now release on Thursday, November 19, 2026.
We are sorry for adding additional time to what we realize has been a long wait, but these extra months will allow us to finish the game with the level of polish you have come to expect and deserve.
We want to thank you again for your patience and support. While the wait is a little longer, we are incredibly excited for players to experience the sprawling state of Leonida and a return to modern day Vice City.
Sincerely,
Rockstar Games
