Lately, the only God of War news we’ve been getting has had to do with the upcoming Prime Video series, but Santa Monica Studio had two announcements for today’s State of Play. The first reveal featured original Kratos voice actor T. C. Carson, who confirmed the original God of War trilogy is getting a remake. This will bring the original three games of the Greek saga to modern consoles, over two decades since the original God of War launched on PlayStation 2. Unfortunately, the project is still very early in development, so it will be a while before more information is shared.
What players don’t have to wait for, though, is God of War Sons of Sparta from Mega Cat Studios. This 2D game has long been rumored, and it was not only revealed today, it is also available today. It’s a 2D action platformer with a canon story set in Kratos’ youth during his training at the Agoge alongside his brother Deimos. The game’s story comes from the writing team at Santa Monica Studio that was behind 2018’s God of War and God of War Ragnarök. The game is a tale of duty, honor, and brotherhood, and it also features T. C. Carson, who reprises his role for the first time in over a decade.
The game is out for PlayStation 5 in two flavors. The standard edition costs $29.99 (€29.99 / £24.99 / ¥3480), while a Digital Deluxe Edition is available for $10.00 more (€39.99 / £32.99 / ¥4480). That extra money gets you several in-game items (Arrow of Virtue, Unstable Gemstone, Rusty Scrap, and Blood Orbs), a digital art book, a digital soundtrack, and a PlayStation Network avatar.
