The Coalition has announced Gears of War: Reloaded, launching on August 26, 2025 for $39.99 USD on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox Cloud Gaming, and PC. The game will also be available day one with Game Pass Ultimate or PC Game Pass, and it will support cross-play and cross-progression across all platforms. Those who own the digital version of Gears of War: Ultimate Edition will get a free upgrade to Gears of War: Reloaded. The remaster will support 4K resolution and 60 FPS in campaign (120 FPS in multiplayer) and basically serves as a celebration for the game’s upcoming 20th anniversary in 2026.

Gears of War: Reloaded is developed by The Coalition in partnership with Sumo Interactive and Disbelief. It has all the content from the Gears of War: Ultimate Edition and will serve as the most complete version of the original game to date. That means it bundles all post-launch DLC, including the bonus campaign act, all multiplayer maps and modes, and a full roster of classic characters and cosmetics unlockable through progression. Those who want to play online with friends can do so with no Microsoft account required, but in order to take advantage of cross-platform and cross-progression functionalities, a Microsoft account is required.

The full list of enhancements includes HDR, Dolby Vision and 7.1.4 Dolby Atmos support, 7.1.4 3D spatial audio, variable refresh rate (VRR), 4K assets and remastered textures, enhanced post-processing visual effects, improved shadows and reflections, super resolution with improved anti-aliasing, and zero loading screens during the campaign.

There is a little bit of fine print: the free upgrade is only available for players who purchased the digital version of Gears of War: Ultimate Edition prior to today’s announcement. So if you’re reading this and don’t own Gears of War: Ultimate Edition, you’re better off waiting for the release of Gears of War: Reloaded in August.

For Gears of War fans, this will have to tide them over until Gears of War: E-Day releases, which was announced last summer.
