Thousands of Bungie community members have collaborated to unlock the gameplay reveal date for Marathon, Bungie’s upcoming extraction shooter. The Marathon Gameplay Reveal Showcase will air on April 12 at 10:00 AM Pacific (1:00 PM Eastern) and will give us our first detailed look at Bungie’s first completely new project in over a decade. They’re the original creators of Halo and Destiny, so we know that the gunplay will at least be tons of fun. The game is set on the planet Tau Ceti IV, where players take on the role of Runners—cybernetic mercenaries designed to survive the planet’s harsh environments.
Marathon originally made its official debut in May 2023 during a PlayStation Showcase. The sci-fi PvP extraction shooter is currently in development for PlayStation 5 and PC with cross-play and cross-save support. Longtime gamers may recognize the Marathon name, from a 1994 game that spawned a trilogy. However, this new Marathon isn’t a direct sequel to the originals, but it will belong to the same universe and will pay homage to the universe’s lore. The game will not have a single-player campaign, but players’ actions will help shape the world.
Recently, Bungie has been in the news for some not-so-great things. The company recently eliminated 220 roles, although 155 of those cut roles were integrated into the parent company, Sony Interactive Entertainment.
