We definitely live in weird times. The developer behind Nintendo’s Pokémon games, Game Freak, has now shown off its original title during Xbox and PlayStation presentations. Last month, Beast of Reincarnation was part of the Xbox Developer_Direct, where Game Freak shared more details about the game’s characters, premise, and combat. Today, during the State of Play, Beast of Reincarnation debuted a new gameplay trailer and announced it will launch on August 4, 2026.
If you missed the news from the Developer_Direct, Beast of Reincarnation is an action RPG set in Japan in the year 4026. It features an original world that blends traditional Japanese elements with science fiction and stars Emma and Koo. The game’s combat system blends real-time action with command-based actions, with Emma handling real-time combat and Koo’s skills being unleashed via commands. Game Freak also shared a little more detail about the ever-changing world, as environments will shift as players explore.
The game definitely looks interesting and proves that Game Freak is capable of creating something that looks like it belongs in 2026. It really begs the question of whether Nintendo is the one holding back Game Freak from creating more modern Pokémon titles. Then again, the series continues to sell millions of units with every entry, even if it offers just an average experience.
