As was previously unveiled as part of the Final Fantasy XIV collaboration with other Final Fantasy titles, Square Enix has released a new video revealing more details on the upcoming Lightning FATE that will be added. As to why Lightning is being introduced to the world of Eorzea is still an unknown, but director and producer Naoki Yoshida has promised that her presence will make sense… at least in as much sense as any Final Fantasy twist can.
Player who complete the Lightning FATE will receive a vanity costume of either Lightning or Snow, depending on the sex of your character. Vanity costumes haven’t been added to the game yet, so it’s a safe assumption that the Lightning FATE won’t be coming until that feature is added. It’s believed all of this will come in time for Patch 2.1, which will also be adding Free Company housing and PvP to the game.
Since the Lightning event will be a FATE, it’s a good chance that it’ll spawn from time-to-time so don’t feel bad if you miss it, there will be plenty of opportunities to get the costume once it’s released.

Update: Square Enix has confirmed that the FATE will go live on November 14, a week before the Japanese release of Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII.
