Since Microsoft has announced it will stop providing security updates or support for PCs running Windows 10 after October 14, 2025, Final Fantasy XIV will also end support for the operating system on that date. While it’s very likely the game will remain playable on Windows 10 for the foreseeable future, Square Enix will not be providing support for any issues that come as a result of the operating system. The company did say it may respond to requests for technical support after October 14, but it will be limited on a case-by-case basis and is not guaranteed.

As a result of the change, the team is also updating the requirements for the PC version of Final Fantasy XIV. Starting from October 15, 2025, here are the new minimum and recommended system requirements for Final Fantasy XIV:

Minimum system requirements:

  • OS: Windows 11 64‑bit
  • CPU: Intel Core i5‑8400 or higher
  • Memory: 8 GB or higher
  • Storage: hard disk 140 GB or more
  • Graphics card: NVIDIA Geforce GTX 970 (4 GB) or AMD Radeon RX 480 or higher
  • Screen resolution: 1280 × 720
  • Internet: broadband connection
  • Communications port: TCP 80, 443, 54992–54994, 55006–55007, and 55021–55040 (configure your router to allow these ports)
  • Sound card: DirectSound‑supported sound card
  • DirectX: DirectX 11

Recommended system requirements:

  • OS: Windows 11 64‑bit
  • CPU: Intel Core i7‑9700 or higher
  • Memory: 16 GB or higher
  • Storage: SSD 140 GB or more
  • Graphics card: NVIDIA Geforce RTX 2060 (6 GB) or AMD Radeon RX 5600 XT or higher
  • Screen resolution: 1920 × 1080
  • Internet: broadband connection
  • Communications port: TCP 80, 443, 54992–54994, 55006–55007, and 55021–55040 (configure your router to allow these ports)
  • Sound card: DirectSound‑supported sound card
  • DirectX: DirectX 11

While I still consider Final Fantasy XIV one of the best games I’ve ever played, I do hope the team shakes up the formula soon. What used to be one of the game’s biggest strengths—predictability—has become its weakness, as each major content patch feels formulaic and there is not currently a strong enough story in Dawntrail to carry it.
