So Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn’s server issues are, for the most part, taken care of now. There are still queues on certain World Servers and lag issues with the Duty Finder server, but generally speaking the MMORPG is running smoothly. Which means Square Enix has been able to take the time to setup its World Transfer Service, which will be offered soon.
According to FFXIV’s Producer and Director, Naoki Yoshida, the team will be making even more server additions this month that he believes will “property meet our operation needs.” As for details on the World Transfer Service, Yoshida spilled a ton of them.
First and foremost, if you are looking to transfer multiple characters to the same destination server, you will be able to transfer up to eight characters at once. Otherwise, each transfer must be done individually if you’re looking to send characters to different servers. In order to transfer your character through the FFXIV World Transfer Service you cannot belong to a Free Company, your character must be logged out, the character cannot have any items being sold on the market boards and there will be a limitation on the amount of gil you can bring over to the destination World. The gil limitation is standard practice in server transfers in other MMORPGs in order to help curb gold farmers.
Transfers will be limited from new World to new World, Legacy World to Legacy World and new World to Legacy World. Players from Legacy Worlds will not be able to transfer to new Worlds at the time being, but Square Enix will keep a close eye on the economic conditions to see if it will be viable in the future.
There are of course risks involved when transferring your character, most notably the chance of not being able to secure the same name on the destination server. If you do opt to transfer and someone else has the same name as you, priority will naturally be given to the already existing player on the server. There is also the risk of transferring to a server that’s even more congested than the one you’re currently on.
Square Enix doesn’t have an exact time frame as to how long character transfers will take, but they will be done in the order that they’re received. Since you have to remain logged out during the process, there’s a chance that you might not be able to log back in for a couple of days.
You can hit the source link for a list of servers that are overpopulated and underpopulated, so choose wisely if you’re planning to take advantage of the FFXIV World Transfer Service.
