The FFXIV Housing System will be introduced in Patch 2.1, scheduled to be released on December 17, 2013. Square Enix has released more details on the FFXIV Housing System and what players will get to look forward to once it goes live next month.
To start, the FFXIV Housing System at its introduction will only be available to free companies and each free company must obtain a Land Acquisition entitlement prior to purchasing a home. Residential districts will be instanced and entrances will be found in all three main cities: Limsa Lominsa, Gridania and Ul’dah.
Plots of land will be sold through auctions and can be purchased in any city regardless of the free company’s affiliation. Initially, only one plot will be available per free company but the team plans on allowing multiple plots for free companies in the future.
Every six hours, each plot of land will be reduced in price if it isn’t sold. Once a plot of land is purchased, free companies will then build a house using a house permit. In terms of customizing the house exterior, players will be able to choose the roof, exterior wall, windows and door, along with four optional parts: roof decoration, exterior wall decoration, placard and fence.
Outdoor furnishings can then be moved, rotated and removed freely by eligible free company members with the numbers of furnishings allowed will be dependent on the size of land purchased.
Additions being planned to the FFXIV Housing System to come at a later date include a crafting workshop where players can build vehicles such as airships, an orchestrion to change the music played within the house, a chocobo stable to raise chocobos, mannequins that can be dressed with player gear and a bulletin board.
