Have all the fires been put out with the Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn’s server issues? For now, but Square Enix isn’t remaining complacent. The team has announced that it’ll continue to monitor and perform server upgrades for FFXIV: ARR and that the concurrent connections to each World Server has been bumped to 7,500 to 7,800. According to Naoki Yoshida, after the recent server expansion was completed, concurrent connections for the game reached an all-time high of 325,000. In other words, FFXIV: ARR continues to shatter records for a game owned and operated by a Japanese company.
There’s more to come however, as the team will look into implementing character transfers for people so that they can join servers with their friends, along with an automatic logout timer for players that go AFK. While many gamers are questioning why that wasn’t implemented in the first place, understand that Final Fantasy XI never had it, and quite honestly, the team didn’t anticipate it would need it for FFXIV: ARR. Is it their fault? Absolutely, but at least they’re looking into addressing the issue. And really, it was better that they focused on expanding the current servers rather than implementing the AFK logout timer, since in the long term it’ll really serve no purpose.
As things begin to stabilize, Square Enix will resume digital download sales for FFXIV: ARR in stages to ensure things stay fully stabilized. Last night, the staff at Full Cleared did some live streaming of some end-game dungeons and sadly many of our viewers weren’t able to purchase the game even though they desperately wanted to play it. We have a feeling that the population numbers are simply going to grow and hopefully Square Enix will be ready for the additional load that is surely heading its way.
For now, most players aren’t reporting any lingering issues in logging on, though there were some following the extended maintenance. For those interested in seeing some FFXIV: ARR content, we’ll be live streaming dungeons runs nightly on our Twitch channel.
