Having spent nearly 350 hours with Factorio and Factorio: Space Age over the years, I don’t recommend it lightly because it’s so addictive. Very few games do what Factorio does, which makes five hours feel like a few minutes. Nonetheless, developer Wube Software has confirmed Factorio and its Space Age DLC are heading to the Switch 2. Best of all, those who own it on the original Switch will be able to upgrade to the Switch 2 Edition for free.

Like many other Switch 2 Editions, the upgraded version includes better resolution with native 1080p in handheld mode and 4K support while docked. The game will also support variable refresh rate in handheld mode. In general, players will get high-quality animations, higher-resolution sprites, various visual improvements, faster loading times, the ability to build much larger bases, and, of course, mouse mode support. Did I mention it’s free?

As for when Factorio and Factorio: Space Age will arrive on the Switch 2, we’ll have to wait. Wube Software said on its website that it will be “as soon as possible.” The DLC will be priced at $35, and as I said in my Factorio: Space Age review, it’s worth every penny. Both will launch at the same time, and the team is currently aiming for a December release, though it’s not set in stone.
