Announced during The Game Awards 2024, Elden Ring Nightreign now has an official release date: May 30, 2025. The standalone spinoff is a three-player co-op game but can also be played solo, just not in pairs. It draws some inspiration from Monster Hunter but features a day and night cycle where, during the night, it shrinks the play area. On the third night of each run, players will face off against a chosen Nightlord as the culmination of each run.
Elden Ring Nightreign features eight unique characters with distinct abilities and Ultimates, along with some roguelite elements where players use relics to customize and upgrade their characters. The game takes place in Limveld, an alternate version of Limgrave, which is a land familiar to Elden Ring players. With a greater focus on co-op, Elden Ring Nightreign may appeal to players who found it difficult to get into the base game. If it manages to capture a gameplay loop similar to Monster Hunter, where players feel like they’re learning and improving the more they play with some form of meta-progression, Elden Ring Nightreign could become the most popular game of the year. Either way, gamers who love these types of games have a lot to look forward to, especially since Monster Hunter Wilds is launching on February 28.
Elden Ring Nightreign will be available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
