Ecco the Dolphin creator Ed Annunziata has confirmed a new Ecco the Dolphin game is in development, along with remasters of the original Ecco the Dolphin and Tides of Time games. The announcement comes in a blog post on Xbox Wire celebrating Asian and Pacific Islander Heritage month. Along with spotlighting several games shaped by the Asian and Pacific Islander community, the post features an exclusive interview with Annunziata that confirms a brand new Ecco the Dolphin game is in development.
The original Ecco the Dolphin, released in 1992, gave players a way to engage with environmental themes and taught the importance of ocean conservation. Unfortunately, for many of us who were just kids at the time, we mostly just thought it was cool to play a game as a dolphin. The good news is, those who have fond memories of playing Ecco the Dolphin over 30 years ago can now look forward to a new adventure. The eccothedolphin.com website currently displays a countdown timer that ends on April 25, 2026 at 9:00 AM Pacific (12:00 PM Eastern), which suggests we’ll learn more about the new game in less than a year. Unfortunately, Annunziata didn’t provide a timeline for the remasters either, but he did say he’s being joined by the original team, so it’ll be interesting to see what they manage to do with modern technology.
