Funcom’s upcoming crafting survival MMO set in the Dune universe has been delayed from May 20 to June 10, with head start launching on June 5. The team says the extra three weeks will give the them what is needed to make improvements that will lead to a better gameplay experience from day one. It appears the delay is the result of a recent major preview beta that involved hundreds of journalists and content creators who had a chance to play early parts of the game. The embargo for that coverage lifts on April 25, so we’ll learn more about what’s going on with Dune: Awakening on that date.
Dune: Awakening has an ongoing Persistent Closed Beta that is continuing with regular updates, and the team is using the feedback collected from those beta testers to continue improving the game. The delay will also allow the team to do a large-scale beta weekend in April, where more people will get the opportunity to play the game and share feedback. Funcom promises to share more information about the large-scale beta test soon.
The delay might work out better for Dune: Awakening, considering May already has DOOM: The Dark Ages releasing on May 15 and Elden Ring Nightreign on May 30. Then again, June 5 is also the launch of the Nintendo Switch 2, so hopefully everyone has some money left over to pick up Dune: Awakening.
