Dune: Awakening got off to a pretty hot start when it launched during the summer, but many players, like ourselves, slowly found themselves turned off by the endgame. Developer Funcom has been looking to address those issues and concerns with the player base and is now looking ahead to Chapter 3. The free update is set to arrive early next year and will be the game’s biggest yet, shaped by conversations, suggestions, and feedback from across the community.
One of the main concerns Funcom is hoping to address with the update is more meaningful progression and choice for PvE players after reaching tier 6. It’s one of the major issues we had with the game, especially some of the forced PvP in the Deep Desert, which made us abandon the game despite enjoying it for nearly 100 hours as a group. The team has also rebuilt the Landsraad system, so players have more ways to progress and earn meaningful rewards.
Other changes include extending faction ranks and introducing two progression loops in the form of Specialization and Augmentations. The overland map has also been expanded, adding new locations and unique repeatable testing stations with challenging boss encounters. Players will also get to check out a rework of the rapier, two new weapons (Pyrocket and Dual Blades), additional story content, and more.
While that content is free, Dune: Awakening will also launch The Raiders of the Broken Lands paid DLC for $9.99, or it will be included in the season pass. The DLC releases at the same time as the free Chapter 3 update and comes with 74 smuggler building pieces, 17 smuggler decorations, three smuggler armor sets, two smuggler weapon variants, a raider buggy skin, and smuggler swatches and emotes.
