One of our most anticipated games of the year, Dune: Awakening, finally has a release date. Funcom has confirmed that its next multiplayer survival game is launching on May 20, 2025, and it’ll be priced from $49.99. Preorders will be opening soon, and those who do will receive the Terrarium of Muad’Dib, which is a detailed in-base decoration housing everyone’s favorite desert mouse. The game will initially launch on PC before heading to consoles, and for those planning to play it on PC, there is now a full character creator and benchmark tool available. Checking out the tool will grant a free key to unlock the Frameblade knife skin at launch. Part of character creation includes selecting your home planet, caste, and mentor. Players will be able to save their character and import it into the full game on launch day.
Dune: Awakening comes from the creators of Conan Exiles, which admittedly had a rough launch. Over the years, the game has become one of the best in the genre, so we’re looking forward to seeing how Funcom built on that platform for Dune: Awakening. The game will feature a large-scale, persistent, and highly immersive world with social hubs, server-wide politics, and a cinematic storyline. In this alternate story, the Fremen have vanished, and Paul Atreides was never born, as Lady Jessica obeyed the Bene Gesserit and gave birth to a girl. These events are further changed as Duke Leto Atreides survived the assault on Arrakeen and is currently fighting the Harkonnen over Arrakis.
If you couldn’t tell by the game’s description, players will have the option to power through the ranks of the Atreides or the Harkonnen, ultimately pledging their entire guild to one of the two houses. As expected, controlling the spice will be key, and PvP will always be optional.
