Surprisingly, Nintendo has announced paid DLC for Donkey Kong Bananza before Mario Kart World. Revealed during today’s Nintendo Direct, Donkey Kong Bananza: DK Island & Emerald Rush DLC is now available for $19.99 as a paid expansion that takes Donkey Kong and Pauline to DK Island. Along with seeing many familiar faces from the Donkey Kong franchise, players will be able to unlock new fashions and collectible statues to display on DK Island.
Those who have finished the main game’s story can accept a position in Void Company to collect as much emerald ore as possible in Emerald Rush. This applies both on DK Island and in Layers from the main game. In each run of Emerald Rush, players will collect fossils to gain helpful Perks for different effects, while smashing Banandium Gems to power up DK with different skills. It’s basically Nintendo’s spin on roguelite elements, and we’re looking forward to giving it a try when we’re bored of Borderlands 4.
I really enjoyed my time with Donkey Kong Bananza, and in my review I talked about how it’s an interesting evolution of a formula that Nintendo arguably pioneered. There’s just something about the idea of Donkey Kong smashing his way through environments that is so simple but works so well.
