One of the best games I’ve ever played, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, has announced that it has sold over 3.3 million units in the first 33 days of release. This is a remarkable achievement, considering the game is available on Game Pass and it is developer Sandfall Interactive’s debut title. Originally released on April 24, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 swept the internet by storm and even managed to overshadow the surprise release of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered on April 22. The game currently sits on Metacritic with a record user score of 9.7 and a Metascore of 92.
It’s not just the game that’s winning over fans. The original soundtrack from Lorien Testard has over 33 million streams in its first three weeks of release, and has even made an appearance at the top of Billboard’s classical album charts. Currently, it has reached over 90 million streams, and the official music video for Lumière has over 2.8 million views.
Turn-based RPGs are probably my favorite games of all time, having grown up loving the Final Fantasy franchise. Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 caught my attention as soon as it debuted, and I said it was the most exciting game at the 2024 Xbox Games Showcase. As I said in my review, the game delivered in spades, taking me on a profound journey with a carefully composed narrative painted with layers of complexity and charming characters.
