Despite being available on Game Pass as a day one release, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 has already reached 500,000 copies sold. It’s an even more impressive milestone for the turn-based RPG, considering The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered shadow-dropped on April 22, two days before Clair Obscur: Expedition 33’s release. The game launched to impressive reviews—currently holding a 92 Metascore on Metacritic—making it the highest-rated new release of 2025. It’s a huge accomplishment for Sandfall Interactive, whose development team consists of around 30 people. Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is also the studio’s first game—but you wouldn’t know it when playing.

We’re only a few hours into our experience, but so far Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 lives up to my high expectations. When the game first debuted at the Xbox Games Showcase last summer, I called it the most exciting of the show, and it remains one of our most anticipated titles of the year. Here’s to hoping it continues to be a success, because we can’t wait to see what the team produces next.
