We finally know when Claptrap will be on the big screen. The Borderlands movie is set to hit theaters on August 9, 2024. The movie, which is directed by Eli Roth, has reportedly undergone numerous re-shoots. According to Borderlands creator, Randy Pitchford the movie exists in a parallel Borderlands Cinematic Universe, so it will be a separate story from the games.

The movie stars Cate Blanchett as Lilith, Jamie Lee Curtis as Tannis, Edgar Ramirez as Atlas, Jack Black as Claptrap, Kevin Hart as Roland, Ariana Greenblatt as Tiny Tina, Florian Munteanu as Kreig, Janini Gavankar as Commander Knoxx, Olivier Richters as Krom, Haley Bennett as an unannounced new character, Gina Gershon as Moxxi, Cheyenne Jackson as Jakobs, Charles Babalola as Hammerlock, Benjamin Byron Davis as Marcus, Steven Boyer as Scooter, Ryann Redmond as Ellie, and Bobby Lee as Larry.

In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Jamie Lee Curtis described the movie as “a little over-the-top” saying that “it’s pretty wacky, it’s fun.” That is certainly an accurate way to describe the Borderlands franchise. Whether it will translate well to the big screen remains to be seen, but we’ll remain cautiously optimistic, since Borderlands is one of our favorite franchises. Please, just don’t be awful.

Recent video game adaptations have enjoyed success, with The Super Mario Bros. movie setting records, and HBO’s The Last of Us, which was recently nominated for 24 Emmys.
