Blizzard has announced that it will permanently ban players in Overwatch if they are found to be cheating or using hacks, bots or third-party software that provides any sort of unfair advantage. In a post by Community Manager Lylirra, the company explains that “Play nice; play fair” is one of its core values as a company and it’s something that Blizzard has taken to heart, not only when designing the game but also as it develops its plans to support Overwatch and its players after launch.
Overwatch goes live on May 24 and if you believe another player is cheating or you have information pertaining to the use of hacks, bots or unauthorized third-party software, Blizzard is asking you to email hacks@blizzard.com with detailed information. You won’t receive a response however, but the company promises that its dedicated team of engineers and analysts will actively monitor the inbox for reports.
The game will also include an option to report players for potential cheating directly through the client.
Of course Blizzard cautions to keep a few considerations in mind when you’re thinking that someone is cheating. One of those considerations is that some players “are just really good at first-person shooters.”
It’s likely that Blizzard will do a thorough investigation into each and every claim that comes through to keep Overwatch a fair game to play, because nothing ruins a first-person shooter faster than cheaters, hackers and botters.
