Last week, Battlefield Studios officially revealed Battlefield 6 as the next entry in the franchise. We now have our first look at the game’s multiplayer and confirmation that it launches October 10 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC. Set in 2027, Battlefield 6 brings back a single-player campaign in which major European countries leave NATO following a high-profile assassination. While the U.S. and its allies deal with the fallout, the private military corporation Pax Armata crosses lines with deep pockets and cutting-edge tech in hopes of filling the power vacuum.
The game promises new features, highlighted by the Kinesthetic Combat System that Battlefield Studios says enhances movement and gunplay. It adds new tactical options in combat, especially multiplayer, such as Drag and Revive to pull teammates out of danger. Another example is the ability to mount weapons on walls in order to reduce recoil. We also learned more about the returning class system, with Assault, Recon, Support and Engineer letting players define their role. Each class has its own gadgets, signature weapons, and dedicated training. Environmental destruction returns with greater freedom so players can truly transform the combat zone.
At launch, the title will feature numerous multiplayer modes and maps, taking players to Egypt, Gibraltar, and even the streets of New York. Fan favorite multiplayer modes are making a return, including Conquest, Breakthrough, and Rush. Other familiar modes, such as Team Deathmatch, Squad Deathmatch, Domination, and King of the Hill will also be available. One brand new mode is Escalation, which pits two teams against one another to capture strategic control points.
Battlefield Studios also confirmed the game launches with an improved iteration of Portal, a toolset that lets players redraw the lines of war. Portal lets players create unique content called Community Experiences, with post-launch support adding more modes, maps, weapons and features.
Earlier this year, EA announced Battlefield Labs, a community development program that puts players in direct contact with Battlefield Studios to help shape Battlefield 6. For those who haven’t participated in Battlefield Labs, the game’s open beta goes live for two weekends from August 9 through August 10 and from August 14 through August 17. Some fans can join the first open beta session early on August 7 by watching their favorite streamers play.
