It’s finally happening: Ashes of the Singularity II has been announced by Stardock and Oxide Games. The highly anticipated sequel to the massive-scale RTS game Ashes of the Singularity is set for release in 2026—a decade after the original. In Ashes of the Singularity II, players get the opportunity to command the United Earth Force, which comprises NATO, China, and Russia. They work to reclaim Earth’s territories and vital outposts on planets and moons across the solar system that AI Substrate and the Post-Human Coalition have overtaken.
Thanks to a larger development team, the sequel aims to deliver more complex gameplay mechanics for greater strategic depth. The game also focuses on intricate base-building dynamics and intense skirmishes against advanced computer opponents. The story-driven campaign is set in 2031, and the game will have cooperative and competitive multiplayer modes.
Along with the new human faction, players can also choose the other two factions. The AI Substrate puts players in the role of Haalee’s Supreme Agent with the goal of preventing Post-Humans from thwarting the AI’s larger plans and keeping humans confined to Earth. Meanwhile, Post-Humans focus on preventing humans from destroying their work while trying to stop Haalee from eradicating all competing sentience.
Returning players can look forward to massive conflicts with hundreds of units and vast bases. The large-scale RTS gameplay puts less emphasis on micromanagement, focusing instead on simplicity. The team is determined to keep it simple and fun, with bases managed by regions rather than individual buildings. As big RTS fans, we are excited to hear more about Ashes of the Singularity II because the genre could really use some innovation.
