When Sony rolled out the upgraded version of PSSR to PlayStation 5 Pro owners in March, it confirmed most new PlayStation 5 Pro titles would ship with the enhanced upscaler going forward and that more existing games would receive patches over time. ARC Raiders is the latest to make the jump. Embark Studios has announced the upgraded PSSR will arrive in the hit extraction shooter as part of update 1.26 on April 28.
The upgraded PSSR uses a different neural network and reconstruction algorithm than the original version, with Sony claiming sharper fine details, more stable motion, and reduced ghosting on translucent effects. According to Embark, the improvements show up most in the kinds of busy scenes ARC Raiders is full of: foliage swaying in the wind, ARC drones cutting across the screen at speed, and rain effects that previously had visible ghosting. PlayStation 5 base model players will continue using TSR upscaling, which isn’t changing with this patch.
ARC Raiders’ dense environments and constant motion are exactly the kind of content that exposes older upscalers, so it’s a natural fit for the upgrade. Embark says the improvements come without a hit to performance, which makes the patch a free win for PlayStation 5 Pro owners on April 28.
