Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn is a really good MMORPG, and we’ll have a detailed post going live shortly explaining why. But unfortunately, server issues have limited the number of people that can enjoy the game since it officially launched on August 27, 2013. Tonight at 5:00 PM PDT, servers will be going down until September 4, 3:00 AM PDT so that Square Enix can upgrade its servers to handle the additional load, hopefully resolving all the login issues that players have been experiencing.

As compensation for all the limitations Square Enix has had to put in place on its login and World servers, the company will be compensating players with an additional seven days of free trial. That means Legacy players (owners of Final Fantasy XIV 1.0) will have 21 days total, while newcomers to A Realm Reborn will have 37 days altogether.

The additional seven days will be added to accounts after maintenance has concluded tomorrow at 3:00 AM PDT. The maintenance will increase the number of available Worlds, reduce stress on the Duty Finder servers, and increase the number of concurrent logins allowed for each server.

Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn‘s digital sales were halted until Square Enix could upgrade its servers.
