Given the success of A Minecraft Movie, which has grossed over $950 million worldwide, a sequel seemed inevitable. Warner Bros. Entertainment Inc. and Legendary Pictures have confirmed that this is the case, announcing a second movie will arrive in theaters on July 23, 2027. Based on one of the best-selling games of all time, Minecraft, the first movie adaptation stars Jason Momoa and Jack Black, though it’s unclear whether they’ll return for the sequel. It seems likely, though, at least for Jack Black, who plays the iconic Steve.

According to a Deadline report, Jared Hess will return to direct, and the screenplay is currently being written by Jared Hess and Chris Galletta. It will probably be some time before we learn more about the movie, but Minecraft fans can be happy they’re getting more.
