During this week’s PlayStation Showcase, many of Sony’s first-party studios were noticeably missing. Many anticipated that Naughty Dog would make an appearance to share more details on the multiplayer game it is working on, set in The Last of Us universe. Today, Jason Schreier published an article on Bloomberg, titled ‘Last of Us Multiplayer Video Game Faces Setbacks at Sony,’ in which he states that Sony has slowed down development on the multiplayer game as the creators reassess its quality and long-term viability.

The article prompted Naughty Dog to release a statement, saying development of The Last of Us multiplayer game needs more time. Perhaps to build excitement, Naughty Dog confirmed it is working on a ‘brand new single-player experience’ and will share more information soon. It’s unclear whether that means Naughty Dog is working on an all new IP (as rumored) or it’s referring to The Last of Us Part III (which is also rumored).

Now, with more events scheduled this summer, Sony may be holding back some announcements for later. After all, The Last of Us Part I was announced during Geoff Keighley’s Summer Game Fest last year.
