It almost seems like a myth at this point, but Dead Island 2 is going to release April 21, after getting its release date moved up a week. To prove that the game is real and looking surprisingly good, nearly 15 minutes of gameplay was recently shared. The video follows player-character Dani as she wanders through a fancy Los Angeles neighborhood smashing up zombies and spitting out dialogue that could be annoying to some. But this is true to Dead Island form and quite honestly, I’m now looking forward to getting my hands on this game after the poor experience I had with Dying Light 2. Maybe this game will satisfy my desire to beat the hell out zombies.
The video also showed off a variety of zombies, more than this game has any reason to have. It also gives us a look into some of the systems in the game, including crafting and powers for each of the characters. Dead Island 2 is also adding a skill cards system in lieu of a talent tree, which will allow you to customize your character with different moves.
I won’t ruin the surprise, but the end of the gameplay video is probably the best part.
Dead Island 2 was originally announced in 2014 as a sequel to 2011’s Dead Island. It has gone through quite the period of development hell and there are literally new gamers who have never been exposed to the Dead Island franchise. Anyone remember Dead Island Epidemic?
