If you were to listen to the internet — and you probably shouldn’t — you’d think It Takes Two had completely bombed being a co-op only game. But the Game of the Year winner at The Game Awards 2021 has sold over 10-million copies, Hazelight Studios has announced. That’s probably 9.9 million more units the internet would tell you it has sold since “absolutely nobody would ever buy a co-op only game.”

Building off what it had learned creating Brothers – A Tale of Two Sons and A Way Out, It Takes Two is a brilliant co-op game, packed with diverse gameplay and puzzles that even non-gamers have come to appreciate. We had quite the enjoyable time going through it, and was pleasantly surprised by how well done the co-op mechanics were from beginning to end. Sure, the story was pretty vanilla compared to the creativity found in the rest of the game, but it did bring Cutie to life — if you’ve played the game, you know what we mean.

Since It Takes Two has actually sold 10-million copies, it means twice as many people have probably enjoyed (or not enjoyed) the game. If Hazelight is able to make the same jump in creativity and gameplay it made from A Way Out to It Takes Two, we can’t wait to see what it’s working on next. We love co-op games here at Full Cleared and we’re really glad there’s a studio focused on making them. More importantly, we’re glad people are buying it, since that means we’ll get even more.
