During today’s Nintendo Direct, the company shared another look at the upcoming Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, which is launching sometime this year on Nintendo Switch and consequently the Switch 2. Today’s trailer revealed that Samus Aran is getting Psychic Abilities on the planet Viewros, allowing her to control the trajectory of her beams, operate mechanisms, and open doors. It’s our most detailed look at the game yet, and it looks really good, considering it’s going to be playable on the current Switch. We also got a taste at one of the trademark features of Metroid Prime: scanning. Metroid Prime 4: Beyond feels a bit like The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, meaning it’ll be the standout title that transitions one console generation to another.

Unfortunately, no release date was announced today, but it’s still slated for 2025. Chances are we won’t hear a release date until the Switch 2’s release date has been confirmed. It’s very likely Metroid Prime 4: Beyond will launch alongside the Switch 2, tempting some players to make the leap just like The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild did for Wii U owners—although that wasn’t as difficult a sell since the Wii U wasn’t exactly successful.
