Following the success of the Silent Hill 2 remake, developer Bloober Team and publisher Konami have announced that the two companies are continuing their relationship. They’ve confirmed that a new agreement for a joint project has been signed, and it’ll be a new game based on Konami’s IP. The press release seems intentionally vague about which IP it’ll be based on, but we would be surprised if it was something other than Silent Hill. The question is whether it’ll be another remake, or an entirely new entry in the franchise.

It’s no secret that Konami wants to expand the Silent Hill series. During a State of Play last year, Konami revealed Silent Hill: The Short Message, a free-to-play game in the Silent Hill series that had a mixed reception. In its defense, Silent Hill: The Short Message began as an experimental project before Konami partnered with Hexadrive to release it to the public. With how well Bloober Team managed to reimagine Silent Hill 2, fans are likely excited to hear it’ll be in charge of another game.

Of course, there’s a possibility it isn’t a Silent Hill game, even though Bloober Team is made up of experts at horror and atmospheric storytelling. Another option is Castlevania, which could really use a modern entry. Or, Konami could do the most unexpected (and funniest) thing possible and bring back the Metal Gear series without Hideo Kojima. Just kidding, that likely will never, ever happen.

Our collaboration with KONAMI has been incredibly fruitful, and the success of SILENT HILL 2 speaks for itself. By sharing knowledge and experience, we have been able to create high-quality production together. Of course, we can’t reveal too many details at this time, but we are confident that fans will be just as excited about our collaboration as we are. We can’t wait to share something truly special with players when the time is right.
