In today’s Super Nintendo World Direct, Nintendo’s Shigeru Miyamoto gave us an extensive first look at the new Donkey Kong Country area at Super Nintendo World in Universal Studios Japan. The expansion area is set to open to the public on December 11 and will be home to Mine-Cart Madness. It’s a family-friendly rollercoaster designed to give riders the sensation of being blasted out of a barrel and jumping over gaps. Today’s Super Nintendo Direct included a brief teaser of the ride, though unsurprisingly, it’s very short.

Along with showcasing Mine-Cart Madness, Miyamoto-san also shared details about some banana-filled delicacies, group activities, how the Power-Up Bands will be used, and where visitors can purchase Donkey Kong merchandise. Oh, and of course, there’s a photo opportunity with Donkey Kong himself, and possibly other characters from the franchise.

We’ll be visiting Super Nintendo World in Universal Studios Japan in January and will be sure to stop by the Donkey Kong Country area to share our thoughts.
