It’s almost a wonder that it’s taken this long, but Magic: The Gathering has announced a collaboration set with the Final Fantasy series. All 16 mainline games will be represented in the set, which is due to be released on June 13, 2025. It’ll be a Universes Beyond set, which was first introduced in 2021. Starting in 2025, all Universes Beyond releases will be legal in all formats, including Standard. The Final Fantasy set is being described as the largest collection of Final Fantasy art ever released in a single game.
Square Enix producer Shoichi Ichikawa confirmed the set will feature several iconic Final Fantasy characters, including Terra, Lightning, Noctis, and Cloud, and it’s very likely every protagonist and antagonist from each mainline entry will make an appearance. We got a sneak peek at some of the gorgeous artwork from the set, featuring Kefka from Final Fantasy VI; Lightning from Final Fantasy XIII; the Final Fantasy XIV Mail Moogle; Tidus and Yuna from Final Fantasy X; Emet-Selch from Final Fantasy XIV; and Sephiroth from Final Fantasy VII.
