Developer Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio has announced Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii as its next title, launching on February 27, 2025 on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Those who aren’t familiar with the Like a Dragon (formerly Yakuza) series are probably looking at this game thinking it’s crazy, but fans of the franchise likely aren’t all that surprised. The spinoff follows Goro Majima, who is known for wearing an eyepatch, as he washes up on an island in Hawaii. Majima has lost his memory and ends up embarking on an adventure as a pirate.

The trailer also features Nele Island, connecting Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii to Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth. We also get a look at the pirates he’ll cross swords with and an area called Madlantis. As expected, the game will be an over-the-top adventure with action-oriented combat consistent with Like a Dragon spinoffs. Players can swap between “Mad Dog” and “Sea Dog” fighting styles, with the former focused on speed, agility, and flair, and the latter featuring Majima dual-wielding short swords and using pirate tools in combat.

The studio has been on a roll in recent years, launching new games every year since 2020. For now, that trend continues into 2025 with Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii.
