With the Nintendo Switch’s successor somewhere on the horizon, it’s little surprise that sales of the current console have slowed. Still, the company managed to move over two million units in the last quarter, pushing total sales to 143.42 million worldwide. This puts the Switch 10.6 million units away from matching the success of the Nintendo DS. Software sales have reached 1,266.46 million. Overall, this year has been slower for releases on the Nintendo Switch, compared to last year’s success that included The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom and Super Mario Bros. Wonder.
Nintendo confirmed Switch sales declined 46.3 percent year over year, while software sales dropped 41.3 percent year over year to 30.64 million. Recent releases have been performing well, though, with Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door selling 1.76 million and Luigi’s Mansion 2 HD already selling 1.19 million. March’s Princess Peach: Showtime! has now sold 1.3 million units.
There are still a few major first-party releases in 2024 for the Switch, most of which came as a surprise during June’s Nintendo Direct:
- Emio – The Smiling Man: Famicom Detective Club on August 29
- The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom on September 26
- Super Mario Party Jamboree on October 17
- Mario & Luigi: Brothership on November 7
For next year, Nintendo is kicking things off with Donkey Kong Country Returns HD on January 16, 2025.
