According to a Variety report, the Halo series starring Pablo Schreiber as Master Chief has been canceled. Based on the popular Xbox video game franchise, the Halo series got off to a very bumpy start with its first season, which had some decent moments but was largely a convoluted story with original characters who didn’t quite fit. The second and most recent season featured more lore and game-accurate events, but still lacked a cohesive story. I could never figure out who the Halo series was made for. Fans of the video game franchise mostly didn’t enjoy it, and those who have never played the video game series likely had no interest to begin with.

Variety also reported that, according to an individual with knowledge of the situation, Xbox, Amblin TV, and 343 Industries are going to try to shop the series to other outlets. This isn’t surprising, considering Halo is still one of Xbox’s biggest brands, even if it’s been stumbling along in recent years. It’s a shame because Halo’s lore, story, and characters could translate well into a series. But it seems more and more like it will end up down the path of Netflix’s The Witcher, which mainly lost fans of the games with its adaptation.

Fortunately, we still have the second seasons of Arcane and The Last of Us to look forward to.
