I have Cities: Skylines II on my list of the Top Games to Play in October 2023, and this is largely due to how much I enjoyed the original Cities: Skylines, as well as its After Dark DLC. Last month, Colossal Order announced a delay in the game’s console release while also revealing the minimum and recommended PC requirements. At the time, I found the recommended specs surprisingly high, leaving me to believe the game might not be very well optimized. This seems to be the case, as Colossal Order has essentially confirmed these concerns.
In a post published on Steam, the team expressed their desire to maintain transparency with the community. “Cities: Skylines II is a next-gen title, and naturally, it demands certain hardware requirements,” the post reads. “With that said, while our team has worked tirelessly to deliver the best experience possible, we have not achieved the benchmark we targeted.” Despite these issues, the game is set to launch on PC on October 24, with improvements planned for the coming months. It’s a bold strategy to warn gamers that there will be performance issues before a game even releases, and we’ll see how it works out for the team.
