After a couple teaser trailers for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III, Activision has officially revealed gameplay for the direct sequel to Modern Warfare II from 2022. The campaign, which is being described as dark and gritty, will focus on Task Force 141 reuniting as the threat of Makarov returning looms large. Activision also revealed that Modern Warfare III will have “Open Combat Missions” that give players more choices with additional paths to complete objectives. These will be in addition to the more linear missions during the campaign.
But the vast majority of Call of Duty players care more about multiplayer than single player. The game will launch with all 16 maps from the original Modern Warfare II from 2009, but modernized for Modern Warfare III. Activision plans to roll out over a dozen more maps. We also got news of a new 3v3v3 mode called Cutthroat, but Activision didn’t reveal any details. Finally, there will be four new large-scale Battle Maps for Ground War and Invasion modes.
Fans of the franchise should know that Activision has a program where most of the content and purchases from last year’s Modern Warfare II and Warzone will carry forward to Modern Warfare III. The game will get a Zombies mode, developed by Treyarch, the team that initially created Zombies.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III is set to launch for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC on November 10, 2023. Those who preorder the game will have access to the campaign one week prior to launch, as well as a multiplayer beta.
