It is quite remarkable what Baldur’s Gate 3 has managed to achieve since its PC release on August 3, 2023. Earlier today, the game peaked at 875,343 concurrent players, lagging only behind Counter-Strike: Global Offensive. This is really impressive, considering last week we thought breaking the 700,000 mark was newsworthy. This milestone also puts Baldur’s Gate 3 at the number-nine spot on the all-time peak concurrent players chart on Steam. It isn’t too far off from surpassing Hogwarts Legacy, which is sitting at 879,308 concurrent players.
Despite its massive release, Baldur’s Gate 3 has managed to avoid any common major game-breaking bugs. However, the team at Larian Studios has been working quickly on fixes and rolled out the game’s third hotfix on Friday to take care of minor issues. They also released some infographics, revealing the choices players have made so far in the game.
In a year full of major sequels to long-running franchises including The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, Street Fighter 6, Diablo IV, Final Fantasy XVI, and Pikmin 4, Baldur’s Gate 3 was widely believed to appeal mainly to previous Baldur’s Gate players and fans of Divinity: Original Sin and its sequel. Not even the folks at Larian Studios expected the game to reach the number of players it has, in such a short time period. We are still slowly making our way through this gargantuan RPG, and are working to have a review published in the coming weeks.
