There was zero chance Evo 2023 would come and go without an announcement from the team at NetherRealm Studios, with Mortal Kombat 1 nearing its release on September 19, 2023. Debuting at the world famous fighting tournament was the official Banished trailer, featuring three new confirmed fighters: Reptile, Ashrah, and Havik. In addition, the trailer confirms a new Kameo, Sareena.

All three characters come from different realms and are showcased in the new trailer along with more footage of gameplay and story elements. For those who are new to the Mortal Kombat franchise, Reptile is another fan favorite, who also goes by Syzoth. He’s a reptiloid slave and shapeshifter from the fringes of Outworld. Known for his ability to spew a powerful acid-like substance, Reptile’s latest iteration in Mortal Kombat 1 looks fantastic.

Meanwhile, Ashrah is a Netherrealm demon who has abandoned her ideologies and now fights with an enhanced Kriss dagger in her journey to find absolution. Finally, Havik, an anarchist rebel from Seido, is intent on taking down his world’s regime.

With Street Fighter 6 enjoying great success following its release in June, it’ll be interesting to see if newcomers to the fighting genre decide to check out Mortal Kombat 1 as well when it releases in September.
