Two months after the first Gran Turismo movie trailer debuted, Sony Pictures Entertainment has shared a new trailer for the upcoming movie that is set to launch in theaters on August 11. Directed by Neill Blomkamp, Gran Turismo stars David Harbour, Orlando Bloom, Archie Madekwe, Darren Barnet, Geri Halliwell Horner, and Djimon Hounsou in a story of a team of unlikely underdogs that are looking to make it in the most elite sport in the world.
It’s based on the true story of Jann Mardenborough, who competed in the GT Academy, which gave players the opportunity to earn a real-life professional racing career with Nissan. There have been a total of 22 graduates from the GT Academy, and the Gran Turismo movie follows the 2011 European winner.
The second trailer gives us a closer look at Madekwe’s character and for those who have played the Gran Turismo games, you’re sure to have a smile on your face from the camera work in the opening driving sequence. While Gran Turismo as a game doesn’t have much of a plot, this premise could make for a good adaptation. With the success of The Super Mario Bros. movie earlier this year, and HBO’s The Last of Us looking prime for some awards, we’re excited to see Blomkamp’s take on Gran Turismo.
